Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • PhD
  • Must be in AMBGG fellowship program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills, including proven management, presentation, negotiation, team facilitation, as well as written and spoken communication.
  • Thorough knowledge of State, CAP, Joint Commission, and institutional policies and procedures for directing a clinical laboratory. 
  • Possess knowledge of institutional and regulatory policies, technical procedures, project and time management aspects of new test development, and institutional cancer center best practices. 
  • Must have ability to provide objective input on operational issues, be able to lead large, complex, multidisciplinary projects and have an understanding of a broad set of problem-solving methods.
  • Must be able to interact with a variety of personnel at various levels within and outside City of Hope.
  • Must be able to evaluate and troubleshoot genetic technologies and perform appropriate computational and statistical analyses of the data, as well as meet regulatory requirements necessary for this testing.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English, required.
 
 

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • Eligible to sit for board exam in Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics (ABMGG);must be obtained within 3 years of hire.
  • CCGS (Clinical Cytogenetics Scientist), must be obtained within 30 months of hire for CA resident; 3 months from another state.
  • CA Residents: Apply to Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist Trainee (CCGST) program, within 12 months of hire.
 

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Prefer candidate to be in year 2 or 3 of AMBGG fellowship.
  • Board certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics (ABMGG) (required) and Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics (AMBGG) (Optional) (completing fellowship before or during 2019);Laboratory genetics and genomics (AMBGG) (completing fellowship 2020 and beyond)
  • Clinical Cytogeneticist (CCG) (required) and Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist (CGMB)(optional);
  • minimal of 2 years at this level before Director eligible (based on technical competence).
