Reporting Relationships
  • The position directly supervises:  Child Life intern
Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
  • M.S. /M.A. in Child Life or related field
Minimum Experience:
  • Completion of Child Life internship in a hospital setting that included work with pediatric oncology patients
Req. Certification/Licensure:
  • Child Life Certification or take exam within 4 months of hire
Pref. Certification/Licensure:
  • Basic Life Support certification 
Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Group facilitation skills
Software:
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook and Internet proficiency
Machines/Equipment:
  • Personal computer, Fax, Photocopier, Printer, Scanner, TV/DVD
Working / Environmental Conditions:
  • Contact with patients and their families under varied circumstances
  • Subject to situations involving grief processes and related issues
  • Atmosphere and environment associated with patient care areas
  • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
  • Exposed to material of a confidential nature on a regular basis
  • Frequent pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries
  • Subject to handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Subject to many interruptions
  • Subject to regularly changing priorities and work assignments
  • Requires judgment that could affect image of City of Hope
  • Occasional travel required
  • Tobacco-free environment
Physical Demands:
  • Wear required protective equipment: gown, gloves, and mask.
  • Moderate physical effort (lift or carry up to 25 lbs.)
  • Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing or walking
  • Lift, position and/or transfers patients.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Intermittent exertion when performing interventions
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching
  • Push and pull filled wheeled carts or wagons
  • Work at computer tasks involving hand wrist coordination
  • Work at tasks involving focus and concentration
