Position Summary

Functions as general laboratory supervisor of testing personnel, as authorized by the laboratory director, Meets qualifications to supervise and perform designated waived, moderate and high complexity clinical laboratory testing under the Clinical Pathology Hematology and Hematopathology Laboratories established by the Chair of Pathology, Medical director and Administrative Director of Pathology. Participates as a member of the Division of Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology leadership team in fulfilling The City of Hope and the department of Pathology objectives and oversees the administrative duties of the Division of Hematopathology

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.  Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that all section policy and procedures are up-to-date.
  • Monitor quality control, internal and external proficiency programs
  • Turn-around-time for routine and STAT testings and monitor critical test value notification practice.
  • Work with other COH departments to solve problems.
  • Ensure that testings are performed in compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure all test instruments are in maintained according to testing parameters.
  • Ensure that all testing personnel has valid work license, qualification, training to meet all annual proficiency requirements.
  • Monitor attendance, performance and enforce COH policy.
  • Hire and train new personnel.
  • Set up work schedules to maintain adequate staffing.
  • Encourage team building and leadership development.
  • Financial Accountability
  • Review, maintain, and analyze financial and cost accounting reports.
  • Prepare monthly budgets reports to prepare the MOR submission.
  • Prepare, analyze and sustain operational budgets.
  • Prepare Capital and IT budgets as requested.
  • Participate and prepare annual budget review.
  • Preparation od ROI’s for new testing, instrumentation and technology.
  • Maintain adequate lab supply and reagent inventory according to LEAN Six Sigma principles, ie Kanban (min - max pars), Kiazem evets etc.
  • Maintain active instrument service contracts.
  • Research and suggest new technologies and instrumentation to improve efficiencies affectability and productivity.
  • Develop cost-effective procedures.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related biological sciences.

  • Completion of 1 year practical training in an accredited institution.

  • Minimum 5 years in a clinical laboratory with emphasis in Hematology/Coagulation or related discipline, leadership, competency in organization, human relation, communication, problem-solving, statistical analysis and computer skills, knowledge in lab information

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • State of California Clinical Lab Scientist license.

Additional Information:
